Do I have to wear a hat?
Guests must wear a hat or headpiece with a solid base of 4 inches in diameter in the Royal Enclosure. Fascinators are not permitted. Novelty hats (i.e. ones which are excessively oversized, or are promoting or marketing any product or brand) are not permitted.
Can I wear a halter neck?
Halter necks are not permitted within the Royal Enclosure, nor are strapless dresses and tops, off-the-shoulder straps, Bardot necklines, and one shoulder garments.
Can I wear a top or dress with an open back?
As long as the top or dress has straps of one inch or greater, and isn’t off the shoulder or Bardot, it will be permitted.
What is considered to be a sheer strap or sleeve?
We consider a sheer strap or sleeve to be that of a nude or very see-through fabric. Lace and coloured tulle, voile and organza materials will be permitted.
Can I wear culottes?
Providing your straplines conform to the Dress Code and they meet the rules for dress length, culottes will be permitted.
Can I wear a short-sleeved shirt with my morning suit?
Yes, but your morning coat must not be removed at any time.
Do I have to wear socks?
Yes, it is required to wear socks covering the ankle when wearing a full trouser.
What constitutes a novelty waistcoat or top hat?
Novelty / promotional waistcoats are defined as including slogans, phrases or promotional messaging, or featuring the likes of cartoon imagery. Although such designs are not permitted, patterned waistcoats and those of a patriotic nature are welcome.
Any top hat that is customised, for example with coloured ribbons, feathers or bands, or is any colour other than black or grey is not permitted within the Royal Enclosure.
When can I remove my top hat?
Guests may remove their top hat within a restaurant, a private box, a private club or that facility’s terrace, balcony or garden. Hats may also be removed within any enclosed external seating area within the Royal Enclosure Garden.
